When Mother Nature Smiles

The last few weeks, we've been lucky to just get out for a walk. First, there were the bitter temperatures and the thigh-high piles of snow. Then, there was the thick layer of ice covering our whole entire world.

Then, magically, Mother Nature decided she loved us. The sun came out. The temperatures rose. The ice melted.

On Sunday, we got a nice stroll in at the State Park. There was actually a little bit of a trail visible (a big change from a few days earlier). We got a second walk in at the park on Monday as Barley's reward for being a good girl while getting her nails trimmed at the vet. We splashed in some puddles, but we'll take that over ice any day. There was still a little snow for the Abominable Snow Pup to enjoy.

There were also a few clear sections of the beach, so we got to extend our walk a little farther. Barley loved getting to smell new smells and kick up some sand.

The later sunsets gave us a chance to get out for a walk after agility class, too. We saw a few deer--and accidentally scared them out onto the semi-frozen river--and the trails were 100% clear of snow and ice and there were very few puddles. Barley was happy that she could trot through the snow along the trails, too.

After a few nice neighborhood walks, too, we ended the week with 23.95 miles, which puts us at 143 miles for the year. We've still got some ground to make up, but it feels like we're getting back on track. Happy FitDog Friday everyone!

    1. We see tons of them on walks at the park near our training center. There were 8 on our walk this week--usually there are many more, so we're looking forward to seeing little fawns again soon!

  7. We had a beautiful weekend last weekend. Of course I was stuck doing nothing after my eye surgery on Friday. I would have loved to get out. It looks like you had a really good week.

    1. We don't do it at the park closest to us very often since there are usually a lot of people on the beach (but none on the trails), but since we had the entire park to ourselves it seemed like a good day to get a little sandy :)

  10. I'm so glad you've been able to get out more....it looks so nice! Mother Nature isn't smiling on us just yet, though she did tease us with a few nice days. They were saying snow this weekend, but now it looks like rain. The only problem with that is that it's going to get cold again afterwards, which probably means we'll be ending up with a lot of ice, which will not be good! At least your post gives me hope that we will get there eventually though!

    1. I hope that our warmer weather makes its way to you soon! We had a dreary, chilly, drizzly day today and my phone has a snowflake on Tuesday--but the highs are also supposed to be in the high 30s, so I'm hoping we're done with ice for a while.

  11. We're loving the longer days, too. So nice to get out for a walk at the end of the day now that it's staying lighter later! We had a nice week here in Atlanta!

    1. Barley loves being able to get out for longer walks! And I am definitely happy--the first couple weeks of snow and cold are always kind of fun and magical, but then when it starts feeling like it will never end, it gets old quick!
